BAKERSFIELD -- Cal State LA's beach volleyball team traveled to Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday for a pair of matches.
The Golden Eagles lost to Division I Cal State Bakersfield in their first match, 5-0, before falling to NAIA program Vanguard, 4-1, in the second. Cal State LA (1-2) played both matches at Cal State Bakersfield's Barnes BVB Complex at the Student Rec Center.
Karla Santos and
Alejandra Negron picked up the lone victory for the Golden Eagles, a hard-fought 19-21, 21-18, 15-9 victory over Vanguard's Kayla Dowell and Hannah Holder at the No. 1 pairs.
Against Cal State Bakersfield, Santos and Negron fell to Mattison DeGarmo and Briannah Mariner, 21-15, 21-15, at No. 1 pairs.
Janessa Mata and
Jessica Kaeka fell to Cameron Solberg and Milica Vukobrat, 21-13, 21-15, at No. 2 pairs,
Sifa Faaiu and
Daisy Crenshaw fell to Sidney Wicks and Hana Makonova, 21-10, 21-13 at No. 3 pairs,
Victoria Duarte and
Jeshmarie Suarez fell to Ally Barber and Rafa Bonifacio, 21-10, 21-14 at No. 4 pairs and
Caitlyn Bato and
Adriana Maldonado fell to Brooke Boiseau and Krista Hernandez, 21-7, 21-15.
Against Vanguard, Santos and Negron picked up the win at No. 1 pairs, Mata and Kaeka fell at No. 2 pairs, 21-17, 21-12 to Charity Dennis and Gabby Morrison, Faaiu and Crenshaw fell at No. 3 pairs to Dani Erdelatz and Brooke Wilsman, Duarte and Suarez fell in a tight three-set match at No. 4 pairs, 21-16, 24-26, 15-4 and Bato and Maldonado fell at No. 5 pairs, 21-19, 21-6.
Cal State LA will return to action on Tuesday against Long Beach State.Â
