SANTA MONICA -- Cal State LA's beach volleyball team enjoyed a nice and successful day at the beach on a cool and breezy Wednesday.
The Golden Eagles started the day with some team photos by the ocean and then finished it with a 5-0 win over Santa Monica College. Cal State LA (1-0) featured many of the players who helped the Golden Eagles reach the NCAA playoffs for the first time since 2009 in indoor volleyball in the fall.
Karla Santos and
Alejandra Negron, who formed a dynamic No. 1 pairs last season, got their second year on the sand together with a 21-8, 21-11 win over Santa Monica's Angelina Burton and Brianna Montgomery. Cal State LA's No. 2 team of
Daisy Crenshaw and
Janessa Mata won their match by forfeit.
Sifa Faaiu and
Jessica Kaeka won at No. 3 pairs, 21-10, 21-13 over Kelsey Molle and Camila Wilson,
Victoria Duarte and
Jeshmarie Suarez won at No. 4 pairs, 21-18, 22-20, over Caitlin Quijano and Maria Larranaga and
Daisia LaBrie and
Caitlyn Bato won at No. 5 pairs, 21-6, 21-6 over Madison Reiner and Chan Asares.
Cal State LA will return to action on Saturday with matches against Vanguard and Cal State Bakersfield in Bakersfield.
