Box Score NORTHRIDGE -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team opened play at the CSUN Fall Invitational Friday at Cal State Northridge.
Freshman
Sakura Kurokawa had the top individual performance of the day with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Megan Tagaloa of Stanislaus State in the "E" Singles bracket. She advances to face Sidnee Lavatai of USU on Saturday afternoon. Chelsea Ruiz was the other Golden Eagle to move onto the second round after advancing past Kelly Lewis of LU on Friday in the "F" singles bracket.
Noa Davico fell to April Wong of Azusa Pacific, 6-3, 6-4, in the "D" bracket,
Amanda Schneider fell to Paige Alter of Stanislaus State, 6-3, 6-0, in the "E" bracket,
Mariko Sagara fell to Shauna Casey of Stanislaus State, 6-3, 6-1, in the "F" bracket and
Alexandra Altamirano fell to Jensen Barnes of MCU in the "G" bracket, 7-6 (5), 7-5.
In doubles, Ruiz and
Berta Acero beat Maroscher/Groff of Cal Lutheran, 6-1, while Kurokawa and Sagura fell to Wong and Stewart of Azusa Pacific, 7-5 in the "F" bracket. Davico and Schneider fell to Ghajar/Emery of LU, 6-2, in the "E" bracket.
Play will continue on Saturday and the tournament concludes on Sunday.
