Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 4 Golden Eagles Post A Big CCAA Victory

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's men's soccer team made sure its Senior Day ended on a bright note with a pair of seniors combining for the best moment of the match.

Leonardo Nogueira drilled a shot just inside the far post in the 64th minute to give the No. 4 Golden Eagles a hard-earned 1-0 victory over UC San Diego in a California Collegiate Athletic Association contest in University Stadium. No. 4 Cal State LA (13-0-1, 8-0-1 CCAA) extended its unbeaten streak to 14 games with the victory, while ending a three-year winless streak against the Tritons (13-4, 8-3 CCAA).

The Golden Eagles' defense was outstanding throughout the match and Cal State LA enjoyed a 12-3 advantage in shots for the game. After weathering a strong UC San Diego start in the first half, the Golden Eagles began to generate offensive chances and finally hit pay dirt midway through the second half. Carlos Zarate set up Nogueira just inside the box and the senior ripped a shot that found the inside of the far post for the only score of the game.

Cal State LA had three excellent chances in the first half, but couldn't get on the board. Morten Bjoershol and Nogueira both had attempts clank off the right post and Manuel Garcia drilled a shot from inside the box that UC San Diego goalkeeper Pedro Enciso made a tremendous save to keep out of the net.

Cal State LA had a 5-0 edge in shots and a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks in a brilliantly-played second half.

Alexander Brems played another strong game in goal and made a pair of saves for his ninth shutout of the season and the team's 10th.

Before the game, Cal State LA honored its nine seniors - Brems, Zarate, Antonio Rosas, Nogueira, D'Morea Alewine, Tim Klefisch, Jose Tovar, Robin Lindahl and Hunter Hwang.

Cal State LA will return to action on Thursday with a road game at San Francisco State.
