NORTHRIDGE -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team competed well against mostly NCAA Division I competition at the CSUN Fall Invitational at Cal State Northridge.
Chelsey Ruiz advanced to the finals of the "F" Singles bracket with wins over Kelly Lewis of LU (6-2, 6-1), Courtney Page of Azusa Pacific (3-6, 7-6, 6-0) and Tammy Van of UC Riverside (6-4, 6-2) to highlight the action for the Golden Eagles.
Sakura Kurokawa also had a win in the first round of the "E" Singles bracket, 6-3, 6-4, over Megan Tagaloa of Stanislaus State before falling to Sidnee Lavatai of USU, 6-3, 6-1.
Noa Davico rebounded from a first-round loss to AC Hummel of FS to record a 6-4, 6-3 consolation victory over Renata Lombera of USU, 6-4.
Amanda Schneider bounced back nicely after a first-round loss in the "E" bracket and won a pair of matches in the consolation draw. She beat Laura Okazaki of UP, 6-4, 6-4, and Hanh Pham of UC RIverside, 6-4, 6-2.Â
After dropping a first-round match in the "F" bracket,
Mariko Sagara posted a consolation victory over Caro Groff of CLU, 6-0, 6-2.
In the "G" singles bracket,
Alexandra Altamirano fell to Jensen Barnes of MCU, 7-6 (5), 7-5 and to Hannah White of MCU, 6-3, 6-1.
In doubles, Davico and Schneider bounced back from a first-round loss in the "E bracket to post a win over Anderson/Santibanez of CSUN (score unavailable).
Berta Acero and Ruiz split matches, beating Maroscher/Groff of CLU, 6-1, and falling to Hitomi/Lazzarno of UC RIverside, 6-2. Kurokawa and Sagura fell to Wong/Stewart of Azusa Pacific, 7-5.
Cal State LA will open the spring portion of its 2019-20 season on Jan. 24 with a home match against UC Irvine at noon.
