HAYWARD -- Cal State LA's men's soccer team extended its season-long unbeaten string to 13 games with another stout defensive effort on a blustery Sunday at Cal State East Bay.
The Golden Eagles allowed only four shots - all in the opening half - and beat the Pioneers 1-0, in a California Collegiate Athletic Association match. No. 4 Cal State LA (12-0-1, 7-0-1 CCAA) posted its third straight shutout and its ninth of the season. The Golden Eagles have 22 points in conference play (three points for a win and one for a tie), two back of UC San Diego (24 points) and even with Cal Poly Pomona. The Golden Eagles have four conference games remaining, while the Tritons have two and the Broncos have three.
The only goal of the game came in the 71st minute courtesy of
Antonio Rosas, who converted a corner kick from
Jose Tovar to give the Golden Eagles the lead.
Cal State LA enjoyed a 24-4 advantage in shots, a 10-4 edge in shots on goal and a 15-2 advantage in corner kicks. The Golden Eagles did not allow a shot in the second half while holding a 14-0 edge.
Robin Lindahl led the way with five shots, while
Morten Bjoershol and
David Elizaga had four shots each.
Carl Solli and Rosas had three shots each.
Juan Diego Escalante had nine saves in goal for Cal State East Bay (2-12, 0-8 CCAA).
Alexander Brems made four saves in goal for the Golden Eagles, all four of them coming in the first half.
Cal State LA will return to action with a home game on Thursday against Cal State San Marcos at 7 p.m.
