No. 4 Golden Eagles Post 2-0 Shutout Over Otters

SEASIDE -- Cal State LA's men's soccer team had the start and finish it wanted Friday in a California Collegiate Athletic Association match at Cal State Monterey Bay.

The Golden Eagles scored goals in the first and last minutes of a 2-0 victory over the Otters at the CSUMB Soccer Complex. No. 4 Cal State LA (11-0-1, 6-0-1 CCAA) remained unbeaten after recording its eighth shutout of the season.

David Elizaga scored a goal just 30 seconds into the game and Carlos Zarate added the second goal in the final minute for the victorious Golden Eagles. Alexander Brems, the reigning CCAA Men's Soccer Player of the Week, made one save in the first half for the shutout.

Cal State LA had a 5-4 advantage in shots and a 3-1 edge in shots on goal. Cal State Monterey Bay (7-4-1, 2-4-1 CCAA) had a 7-6 advantage in corner kicks. 

Elizaga's goal was the Golden Eagles' only shot of the opening half. Cal State LA had a 4-2 edge in shots in the second half.

Cal State LA's backline of Morten Bjoershol, Antonio Rosas, Jorge Orellana and Jose Orellana was outstanding once again over 90 minutes. Jorge Orellana had the assist on Elizaga's opening goal.

Zarate had two shots for the Golden Eagles, while Robin Lindahl, Ramon Hofmann and Elizaga had one shot each.

Cal State LA will return to action on Sunday with a game at Cal State East Bay at 11:30 a.m.
