Box Score AZUSA -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team continued to battle at less than full strength Wednesday and found the going tough against No. 11 Azusa Pacific.

The Golden Eagles got a good afternoon from Chelsey Ruiz, but Azusa Pacific took two of the three doubles contests and four of the six singles matches to post a 6-3 win in Azusa. Cal State LA (7-12) juggled its doubles and singles lineups due to injury and competed well against one of the nation's top teams.

Ruiz accounted for two of Cal State LA's three points on Wednesday, teaming with No. 1 singles player Elizaveta Sokolova for an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles over Diana Baumgartnere and Kara Hinton and then recording a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 5 singles over Jackie Resler. Cal State LA's Amanda Schneider, ranked No. 74 in the nation, earned a win at No. 2 singles after holding a 6-2, 2-3 lead when Baumgartnere retired.

Sokolova fell at No. 1 singles to the No. 8 singles player in the nation, Toby Miclat, 6-1, 6-2. Isabelle Lopez, moving up to No. 3 singles, had a good battle against Hinton before falling, 7-6 (10-8), 6-1. Mariko Sagara fell at No. 4 singles to No. 41 April Wong, 6-3, 6-1 and Snezana Ivanovic fell at No. 6 singles to Courtney Page, 6-0, 6-1.

Cal State LA will conclude the regular season with a home match against UC San Diego on Saturday at noon. The Golden Eagles will honor their two seniors, Sokolova and Ivanovic, in pre-match ceremonies.
