LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team stumbled a bit in doubles Wednesday against Dominican, but the Golden Eagles made up for it in singles.
After dropping two of the three doubles contests, the Golden Eagles stormed back to take five of the six singles matches and record a 6-3 win over Dominican at the Cal State LA Tennis Complex. Cal State LA (3-6) won four of the singles matches in straight sets over the Penguins (5-5).
The Golden Eagles were forced to rally after winning only one doubles match.
Isabella Lopez and
Luciana Di Laura were victorious at No. 2 doubles, 8-2, over Dominican's Taylor Lim and Savannah Gray.
The Golden Eagles, though, got the job done in singles.
Elizaveta Sokolova led the way at No. 1 singles with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Skyler Schaar. Di Laura won at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-2, over Gray, Lopez was victorious at No. 4 singles, 7-5, 6-2, over Alex Wartenberg,
Mariko Sagara won at No. 5 singles, 7-5, 4-6 (10-7) over Kaitlyn Nguyen and
Chelsey Ruiz won at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-3, over Lim.
Cal State LA will return to action on Friday with a road match at Stanislaus State.
