LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team picked up a much-needed victory Monday on a cold and breezy day at the Cal State LA Tennis Complex.
The Golden Eagles took all three doubles contests in tight matches and swept the six singles matches to pull out a 9-0 win over Dixie State. Cal State LA (2-4) snapped a three-match losing streak and played with a full lineup for the first time in the past four contests.
The best match of the day came at No. 2 doubles, where Cal State LA's 
Luciana Di Laura and 
Isabella Lopez outlasted Dixie State's Kyra Harames and Sabrina Longson, 8-7, after taking the tiebreaker, 7-1.
Cal State LA also prevailed in a tight match at No. 3 doubles, where 
Mariko Sagara and 
Chelsey Ruiz edged Francis Goldsmith and Hattie Erekson, 8-6. 
Amanda Schneider and 
Elizaveta Sokolova beat Lacey Hancock and Yolena Carlon of Dixie State, 8-4.
Ruiz rallied from a 5-2 deficit in the first set to beat Erekson at No. 6 singles, 7-6, 6-2. Di Laura fought off a stern challenge from Longson at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-4. Schneider won at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-3; Sokolova beat Harames, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, Lopez beat Goldsmith at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-3 and Sagara won at No. 5 singles, taking the first set, 6-3, before her opponent retired.
Cal State LA will return to action on Saturday with a road match at UC San Diego.
