LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team had a good battle Sunday in a match against NCAA Division I Southern Utah University.
The Golden Eagles managed a big win at No. 1 doubles and a pair of singles victories, but fell short against the Thunderbirds, 6-3, at the Cal State LA Tennis Complex. Cal State LA (1-4) got an outstanding performance from newcomer
Amanda Schneider, who picked up points in both singles and doubles.
Southern Utah picked up its second win in as many days on its Southern California trip.
Schneider teamed up with
Elizaveta Sokolova for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles for the Golden Eagles and then picked up a well-played 6-1, 6-4 win over Ghita Nassik at No. 1 singles.
Luciana Di Laura had the highlight victory of the day for the Golden Eagles, posting an exciting 7-6, 1-6, 11-9 victory at No. 2 singles in the final singles match to finish.

Mariko Sagara,
Snezana Ivanovic and
Chelsey Ruiz battled well in singles spots 3-6 despite the lineup being juggled due to the absence of Sokolova. Ruiz also had an outstanding match at No. 6 singles, falling in a third-set tiebreaker, 7-6, 3-6, 10-3.
Cal State LA will return to action against Division II competition on Monday when the Golden Eagles host Dixie State at 10 a.m.
