SAN DIEGO -- A short-handed Cal State LA women's tennis team took an impressive lead after doubles Friday in its match against Point Loma, but fell short in the singles contests.
The No. 15 Golden Eagles, playing without injured No. 1 player
Elizaveta Sokolova, got wins at the top two doubles spots, but dropped all six singles matches in a 7-2 loss to the Sea Lions at the Point Loma Tennis Courts. Cal State LA (1-3) had to move its entire singles roster up one spot and Point Loma (3-2) won all six contests in straight sets.
Amanda Schneider and
Mariko Sagara played well at No. 1 doubles and posted an 8-4 win over Nikki Newell and Carolina Cueva Bucio and the No. 2 doubles team of
Isabella Lopez and
Luciana Di Laura battled to an 8-6 win over Shelby Groeneveld and Nicole Camaratta. Chelsea Ruiz and
Snezana Ivanovic fell at No. 3 doubles, 8-4.
Cal State LA will return to action on Sunday with a home match against Southern Utah at 11 a.m.
