POMONA -- Cal State LA's baseball team saw an impressive streak stay alive Thursday in Pomona, but the Golden Eagles were unable to dig out of a deep hole against Cal Poly Pomona.
The Golden Eagles scored six runs in their final two at bats, but the Broncos scored the first 11 runs of the game in an 11-6 California Collegiate Athletic Association victory at Scolinos Field. Cal State LA (13-6, 6-3 CCAA) and Cal Poly Pomona (12-8, 8-1 CCAA) combined for 19 hits and seven errors in the opener of a four-game conference series.

Sean Watkins slugged a three-run home run as the final shot in a five-run ninth-inning rally for the Golden Eagles and has now hit home runs in five consecutive games.
Nathan Navarrete was 1-for-5 with two runs and one RBI and
Angel Sanchez was 3-for-4 with one run scored.
Christian Broussard, Jr. started on the mound for the Golden Eagles and allowed seven hits and three earned runs in 6 1/3 innings.
Ryan Dixon and
Merrick Patito finished up for the Golden Eagles. Broussard is now 4-1 on the season.
Jeff Bain tossed seven shutout innings for Cal Poly Pomona to improve to 3-0. Brennan McKenzie hit a three-run home run in a four-run fourth inning that was kept alive by a pair of Cal State LA errors. The game was scoreless heading into the bottom of the fourth. The Golden Eagles also committed an error in a seven-run seventh-inning for Cal Poly Pomona that broke open the game.
Cal State LA scored its first run in the eighth. Navarrete reached third base on an outfield error and scored on a wild pitch.
Tommy Pincin started the ninth-inning rally with a single, Sanchez followed with a single and
Armett Johnson reached on an error to load the bases. Navarrete singled in a run and Broussard knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly. Watkins then hit a home run to make it 11-6.
Cal State LA will continue the series with a game at Cal Poly Pomona on Friday at 3 p.m. The series will conclude on Saturday with a doubleheader at Reeder Field at 1 p.m.
