Golden Eagles Drop Second Game To Broncos

POMONA -- Cal State LA's baseball team found the going tough for a second straight day at Cal Poly Pomona.

The Golden Eagles lost the second game of a four-game California Collegiate Athletic Association series, 12-3, Friday at Scolinos Field. Cal State LA (13-7, 6-4 CCAA) had won four straight games entering the series, but Cal Poly Pomona (13-8, 9-1 CCAA) has gotten off to good starts in both games and never looked back.

Angel Sanchez was 2-for-4 with two runs scored for Cal State LA, while Christian Broussard was 2-for-4. Sean Watkins drove in a pair of runs for the Golden Eagles, while Andrew Hermanson was 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Cody Martin was 4-for-6 for the Broncos, while Jason Padlo was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Frankie Nogales was 3-for-5 with three runs and three RBI.

Cal State LA's Saxon Andross started for the Golden Eagles and went four innings. Nate Adams pitched the next three innings and Holden Berger pitched a scoreless ninth inning.

Jeremy Taylor allowed eight hits and three runs over 7 1/3 innings to get the win for the Broncos.

Cal State LA took a 1-0 lead in the first on a fielder's choice by Watkins that drove in Sanchez. Cal Poly Pomona, though, scored four times in the bottom of the inning on four hits and added two more in the second. Hermanson singled and scored a run in the fourth for the Golden Eagles to make it 6-2 and a run-scoring double by Watkins made it 7-3 in the fifth.

The Golden Eagles, though, were unable to score over the final four innings.

Cal State LA will conclude the series against Cal Poly Pomona with a home doubleheader at Reeder Field on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
