LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's baseball team posted its fourth straight win thanks to its second straight comeback.
The Golden Eagles erased a 4-3 deficit with three runs in the sixth inning and beat Northwest Nazarene, 7-4, Thursday night at Reeder Field.
Nathan Navarrete delivered a two-run triple to give the Golden Eagles the lead and he later scored on a single by
Jorge Garcia.
George Alamillo blanked the Crusaders, the defending Great Northwest Athletic Association champions who were making their 2017 debuts, on one hit over 2 2/3 innings to pick up the win, while
Gabriel Gentner worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his third save of the season.
Garcia finished with three hits for the Golden Eagles, who had 11 hits in the game. Navarrete was 2-for-5 with three RBI.
Jarod Gonzales had the big blow for Northwest Nazarene, hitting a grand slam home run in the third inning to stake the Crusaders to a 4-1 lead. Gonzales finished with two hits.
Christian Broussard, Jr. started for the Golden Eagles and allowed six hits and four runs over 5 1/3 innings. Jaramy Jacobs drew the start for Northwest Nazarene and allowed six hits and two earned runs over five innings.
Cal State LA took a 1-0 lead in the second when
Mike Alexander and
Isaac Dominguez delivered back-to-back doubles. After the Crusaders took a 4-1 lead in the top of the third on the Gonzales grand slam, the Golden Eagles bounced back for two runs in the bottom of the third.
Andrew Hermanson drove in a run on a fielder's choice that allowed Broussard to score and
Angel Sanchez delivered a two-out single to drive in Hermanson.
Cal State LA then took the lead with its three-run rally in the sixth and the Golden Eagles added another run in the seventh on a run-scoring single by Navarrete that drove in Dominguez.
The series has been changed due to expected rain on Friday. The doubleheader scheduled for Friday has been postponed and will now be played on Saturday at 2 p.m. The series will now conclude on Monday at 6 p.m.
