SAN DIEGO -- After falling behind after the doubles matches, Cal State L.A.'s women's tennis team got things turned around in singles play.

The Golden Eagles won five of the six singles contests and rallied for a 6-3 win over Pt. Loma Nazarene Saturday in San Diego. Cal State L.A. (7-8), ranked 25th in the nation, snapped a three-match losing streak.

Cal State L.A. dug itself an early hole after losing two of the three doubles matches. Samantha Sismundo and Sevana Zargarian salvaged the lone doubles point for the Golden Eagles, taking an 8-6 decision at No. 3 doubles over Pt. Loma's Hope Penner and Kirsty Mountain.

The Golden Eagles, though, played well in the singles matches to rally for the win. Christie Lau won at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-3, over Pt. Loma's Maika Adair, Leora Hemmerich won at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-1, over Hope Penner, Tiffani Shaik won at No. 3 singles, 1-6, 7-5, 7-5, Jill Sangria won at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-1 and Tiffany Leung won at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 7-5, over Mountain.

Sismundo dropped a tight 6-2, 7-5, decision at No. 6 singles to Kiersten Steinhauer.

Cal State L.A. will return to action on Monday with a home match against Azusa Pacific beginning at 11 a.m.
