LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.'s women's tennis team got back on the winning track Saturday in a match against former conference competitors.
 
The Golden Eagles took two of the three doubles matches and five of the six singles contests to beat Sonoma State, 7-2, Saturday at the CSULA Tennis Complex. Cal State L.A. (5-3) is ranked 14^th in the NCAA Division II.
 
The Golden Eagles got off to a strong start in doubles and took points at No. 2 doubles, where Tiffani Shaik and Sydney Postal beat Megan White and Lauren Shafer, 8-1, and at No. 3 doubles where Jill Sangria and Samantha Sismundo beat Sheena Johnson and Lauren Ha, 8-1. Sonoma State's Sara Celma and Chloe Jolliff won at No. 1 doubles over Cal State L.A.'s Christie Lau and Leora Hemmerich, 8-5.
 
An ailing Hemmerich was unable to play in her customary No. 2 singles spot, but the Golden Eagles adapted and won at the first five positions. Lau rallied for a tough 1-6, 6-0, 7-6 (7-3) win over Celma at No. 1 singles.
 
Sangria won at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-0, over Jolliff, Shaik won at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-0, over White, Tiffany Leung won at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 7-5, over Johnson and Postal won at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-2, over Shafer. Sismundo dropped a hard-fought match at No. 6 singles, 6-4, 1-6, (10-3) to Ha.
 
Cal State L.A. will return to action on Tuesday with a home match against Rollins College at 1:30 p.m.
