ST. GEORGE, UT -- Cal State L.A.'s baseball team completed a disappointing final week of the season by dropping its season finale at Dixie State College on Sunday.
The Golden Eagles were unable to hold an early lead and fell to the Red Storm, 5-4, Sunday at Bruce Hurst Field. Cal State L.A. (26-22) dropped three games in the four-game series at Dixie State (32-18). Cal State L.A. was ranked fifth in the NCAA Division II West Region coming into the week, while Dixie State was ranked sixth.
Cal State L.A. started the week by splitting a doubleheader at Cal State East Bay on Monday that knocked the Golden Eagles out of contention for a spot in the four-team California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship Tournament.
The Golden Eagles were able to point to some history that was completed on Sunday.
Daniel Duran, despite going 0-for-3 with a pair of walks, set a new program record for batting average in a season. He finished the year with a .451 average, eclipsing the record of .440 set by Ken Lohnes in 1968.
Duran scored a pair of runs on Sunday.

The Golden Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the first when Rodarte walked with the bases loaded and Quick delivered a sacrifice fly. Cal State L.A. made it 3-0 in the third when Wharton doubled in Duran, who had walked.
Dixie State scored twice in the fifth to make it 3-2, but the Golden Eagles responded with a run in the sixth on a run-scoring double by Arce.
Dixie State, though, got single runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth to take the game.
Ryan Santhon went seven innings for the Golden Eagles, allowing eight hits and four runs.
Jacob Valenzuela allowed the run in the eighth.
