LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.'s women's tennis team concluded a disappointing 2009 dual match season with a loss to California Collegiate Athletic Association opponent Cal Poly Pomona.
The Golden Eagles managed a win in singles and a win in doubles, but that was it in a 7-2 loss to the Broncos Thursday at the CSULA Tennis Complex. Cal State L.A. (3-10, 2-8 CCAA) lost its sixth straight match, while Cal Poly Pomona (6-10, 4-3 CCAA) completed a season sweep of the Golden Eagles.
Before the match, seniors
Bojana Ducanovic and
Princess Manasseh were honored on “Senior Day.” Ducanovic earned first-team All-CCAA honors in 2007 and has earned CCAA All-Academic honors the past two seasons. Manasseh also earned CCAA All-Academic honors the past two years.
Ducanovic teamed with
Adriana Espinosa for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles over Cal Poly Pomona's Jennifer Chow and Fallon Blattner on Thursday. Manasseh was one of several Golden Eagles to fall victim to the injury bug and she didn't play since suffering a season-ending shoulder injury against Hawaii-Hilo on March 5.
Lana Lamesic accounted for the other Cal State L.A. point on Thursday with a come-from-behind 5-7, 6-2, (10-4) win over Chow at No. 2 singles.
