WALNUT CREEK – Cal State L.A.'s baseball team was well-represented on the All-California Collegiate Athletic Association team that was released by the conference on Wednesday.
The Golden Eagles had a total of five players earn All-CCAA honors, including senior catcher
Mario Ramirez, who earned first-team honors for the second straight season. The All-CCAA team was selected in voting by the conference coaches.
Brandon Gregorich of UC San Diego was named the conference's Most Valuable Player, while Matt Rossman of UC San Diego was the Most Valuable Pitcher. Abel Medina of Cal State Dominguez Hills was the Newcomer of the Year, Charlie Sharrer of Cal State East Bay was the Freshman of the Year and UC San Diego's Dan O'Brien was the Coach of the Year.
Ramirez, who earned first-team honors as a junior outfielder last season, had another outstanding season in 2010, this time as a catcher. He led the Golden Eagles in runs scored with 47 and he was second on the team in batting average at .343. He also set a single-season Cal State L.A. record by getting hit by pitches 21 times.
