SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Cal State L.A.'s men's basketball team got to experience the Carrier Dome at Syracuse for the third time in the past four years Sunday.
The Golden Eagles kept it close for most of the first half before Syracuse pulled away and earned a 97-54 decision in an exhibition game Sunday afternoon in the Carrier Dome. Cal State L.A. trailed by just eight points, 24-16, with 7:16 remaining in the first half after a basket by
Trevor Hopkins.
Syracuse, though, had a 12-0 run as part of a 20-3 stretch that ended the first half.
Cal State L.A. held an early 7-3 lead before Syracuse went on a 12-0 run to take the lead for good.
Dwayne Jones had 11 points for the Golden Eagles, while Hopkins finished with 10.
Chris Fields had eight points and eight rebounds, while
Chris Robinson added eight points.
The Golden Eagles shot just 27 percent against Syracuse's tough defense, making 18-of-67 field-goal attempts. Syracuse shot 53 percent.
Syracuse also held a 52-41 rebounding edge.
Cal State L.A. will play two more exhibition games against NCAA DIvision I opponents, Nov. 9 at Cal State Fullerton and Nov. 14 at UC Santa Barbara.
