LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's men's basketball team saw its season come to a close on Saturday in a California Collegiate Athletic Association loss to Cal Poly Pomona.
The Golden Eagles shot just 32.8 percent, while the Broncos shot at a 55.9 percent clip and went on to an 86-54 win in University Gym. Cal State LA (9-19, 8-14 CCAA) trailed 37-25 at halftime and was then outscored, 49-29, in the second half by Cal Poly Pomona (17-11, 12-10 CCAA), which clinched a CCAA tournament spot with the victory.
Khemanni Davis had a team-high 17 points for the Golden Eagles, while
Donovan Vickers had 16 points and a season-high nine assists.
Jake Goldberg led six Broncos in double figures with 16 points, while Michael Saba had 14 points.
Jordan Hansen had seven points and six rebounds for the Golden Eagles, while
Damarion Pouncil had seven points and four rebounds.
Cal State LA shot 32.8 percent for the game (20-of-61) and was just 4-of-26 from 3-point range. The Golden Eagles were 10-of-14 from the free-throw line. Cal Poly Pomona shot 55.9 percent (33-of-59) and was 12-of-27 from 3-point range. The Broncos were 8-of-9 from the free-throw line. Cal Poly Pomona had a 39-29 rebounding edge and each team finished with just six turnovers.
The Broncos scored the first five points of the game and never trailed.
Cal State LA honored its two seniors -
Jordan Hansen and
Donovan Vickers - and also paid tribute to head coach
Jim Saia, who completed his historic 10-year career with the Golden Eagles. Saia led the Golden Eagles to their first-ever conference tournament and a program record 24 wins in the 2023-24 season.
