Summary

Biography

2013: Had a second strong season for the Cal State L.A. track and field team in her final year with the program. Had best marks of 2:28.85 in the 800 meters, 4:56.69 in the 1,500 and 19:55.46 in the 5,000. Finished 15th in the 1,500 at the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships and 23rd in the 5,000. For her career, had best marks of 2:26.77 in the 800, 4:53.48 in the 1,500, 11:17.31 in the 3,000 and 18:58.37 in the 5,000.

2012: Competed in four events for Cal State L.A.’s track and field team in the spring. Had best times of 2:26.77 in the 800 meters, 4:53.48 in the 1,500, 11:17.31 in the 3,000 and 18:58.37 in the 5,000. Was one of the most improved runners in the conference in cross country in the fall. Was the team’s No. 3 runner and finished 16th in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships, missing All-Conference honors by one place. Recorded a season’s best 6,000-meter time of 22:44.5 in that race. Also finished 69th in the NCAA West Regionals with a time of 23:39.7. Was the team’s No. 2 runner in that race.

2011: Competed for Cal State L.A.’s cross country team. Ran in four races and was in the team’s top five in the final two races of the season. Finished 31st in the CCAA Championships with a 6,000-meter time of 22:37.3 and helped the Golden Eagles to a third-place team finish. Also placed 42nd and was the team’s third-fastest runner with a time of 22:54.0 in the NCAA West Regionals. Earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors.

At Cerritos College: Was the team MVP in cross country and the top distance runner on the track and field team. Finished eighth in the state in the 1,500 meters.

At El Rancho High School: Was the team MVP in cross country and won the Coach’s Award in track and field. Four-year letterwinner in track and field and two-year letterwinner in cross country. Was captain of the cross country and track and field teams for two years.

Personal: Daughter of Manuel and Esther Mejia. Majoring in fine art. Enjoys painting, reading, running and cooking. Lists making it to the state championships in track and field at Cerritos as her most exciting experience in sports.
