Biography

2013: Had an outstanding season with the Golden Eagles and completed a tremendous four-year career with the program. Finished ninth in the nation in the triple jump at the NCAA Championships. Was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Field Athlete of the Year after winning conference championships in the long jump and triple jump. Had best marks of 23.66 in the 200 meters, 23-11.75 in the long jump and 50-11.75 in the triple jump. Was one of two Cal State L.A. recipients of the 2012-13 Dr. Hal Charnofsky Memorial Award from the CCAA for academic and athletic accomplishments. For his career, had best marks of 23.66 in the 200, 23-11.75 in the long jump and 50-11.75 in the triple jump. Finished his career No. 9 all-time at Cal State L.A. in the triple jump.

2012: Had his best season with the Golden Eagles. Finished second in the California Collegiate Athletic Association in the triple jump with a mark of 48-10.25. That mark was an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark and a career best. Also finished fourth in the conference in the long jump and had a best mark of 23-2.Earned All-West Region honors in the triple jump.
 
2011: Returned from an injury in his second season with the Golden Eagles. Had a season’s best mark of 46-00.50 in the triple jump at the CCAA Championships. Finished sixth in the event for the Golden Eagles.
 
2010: Had an outstanding start to his first season with the program before suffering an injury that cut his year short. Posted an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark in the triple jump of 48-3 at the Northridge Invitational in March. Also had a best mark in the long jump of 22-2.25 at the same meet.
 
At Dorsey High School: Was an Honor Roll student all four years in high school. Was the L.A. City triple jump champion in 2007 and 2009. Was part of the L.A. City Section championship team in 2008. Participated in the California State Meet in 2009. Competed in basketball and track and field in high school.
 
Personal: Son of Sandra Smith. Majoring in communications. Enjoys studying languages (Spanish and Chinese), working out, singing, dancing and acting. Lists winning three championships three times in a row as his most exciting experience in sports. Says he has a big personality and a constant love for health and fitness.
