Biography

2015: Shared Cal State L.A.'s 2014-15 Frank J. Candida Award  with Mike Beigarten as the program's top male athlete, winning the honor for a second straight year after finishing a remarkable career with the Golden Eagles. Earned All-America honors for a second straight year after finishing seventh in the nation. Also qualified in nationals in the 200. Had a best time of 10.38 in the 100 that is No. 3 all-time at Cal State L.A. Also had best times of 21.07 in the 200 and 47.34 in the 400. Earned California Collegiate Athletic Association Male Track Athlete of the Year for a third straight season after capturing two more conference titles. Won conference championships in the 100 and 200 and was part of a 4x100 relay team that placed second. Earned All-West Region honors in the 100, 200, 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay. For his career, won 11 CCAA titles, 14 All-CCAA awards, 13 All-West Region awards and two All-America awards. Had best marks of 10.38 in the 100, 21.04 in the 200 and 47.34 in the 400.

2014: Received the department's 2013-14 Frank J. Candida Award as Cal State L.A.'s top male athlete.. Earned All-America honors in the 100 meters after finishing sixth in the nation at the NCAA Championships. Was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Track Athlete of the Year for a second straight year after winning conference titles in the 100, 200 and 4x400 relay. The three titles raised his three-year total to nine conference championships. Earned All-West Region honors in the 100 and 200. Qualified for nationals in the 100 and 200. Had best times of 10.42 in the 100, 21.04 in the 200 and 48.10 in the 400.

2013: Had a second sensational season with the Golden Eagles. Was named the CCAA Track Athlete of the Year after winning conference titles in the 200, 400 and 4x400 relay. Recorded best times of 21.12 in the 200 and 47.91 in the 400. Anchored the 4x400 relay team to a best time of 3:11.71. Won the conference 400 title for a second straight season. Qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 200 and the 4x400 relay. The relay team was 10th overall and missed qualifying for the finals by one spot after posting its best time of the season. Earned All-West Region honors in the 200, 400 and as part of the 4x400 relay team.

2012: Had a tremendous first year with the Golden Eagles. Captured a CCAA championship in the 400 meters and was also on two conference championship relay teams. Qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 200 meters with a best time of 21.34. Was second in that event in the CCAA Championships. Also had a provisional qualifying mark in the 400 of 47.89 that he set while winning the conference title. Was also on the 4x100 relay team that went to nationals. Had a best time of 10.85 in the 100 and helped the 4x100 relay team to a best time of 40.78 and the 4x400 relay team to a best time of 3:12.87. Earned All-West Region honors in four events: the 200, 400, 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay.

At Dorsey High School: Competed in football, track and field and cross country. Was on the school’s Honor Roll and was on teams that won Los Angeles City Section championships in 2008, 2010 and 2011.

Personal: Son of Gregory Veals, Sr. and Capresha Clayter. Majoring in communications. Enjoys watching “Adventure Time” and long walks on the beach. Lists having the 11th-fastest time in the nation as a seven-year-old as his most exciting experience in sports.
