Biography

2020: Was off to a promising start with the Golden Eagles before the season was halted after three meets. Had the team's best time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a mark of 12:20.77 at the Long Beach State Beach Opener on March 7. Was No. 6 in the nation in the steeplechase when the season was ended. Ran the anchor leg on a 4x800 meter relay team that finished third with a time of 10:48.45 at the Rossi Relays on Feb. 22. Earned 2020 California Collegiate Athletic Association Spring All-Academic honors. For her career, had best marks of 5:12.09 in the 1,500, 11:24.94 in the 3,000, 12:02.82 in the steeplechase and 19:29.41 in the 5,000.

2019: Had a second strong season with Cal State LA’s track and field program. Finished ninth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships with a time of 12:02.82. Also had best times of 5:12.09 in the 1,500 and 11:24.94 in the 3,000.

2018: Had a strong first season for Cal State LA’s track and field team. Had best times of 12:15.39 in the 3,000 meters, 12:57.16 in the 3,000 steeplechase and 19:29.41 in the 5,000. Earned a CCAA All-Academic Award (2017-18). Also competed for Cal State LA’s cross country team in the fall and was one of the team’s top runners. Finished 95th in the CCAA Championships with a time of 25:42.3 over 6,000 meters and was the team’s No. 3 runner. Finished 163rd in the NCAA Division II West Regional with a time of 25:06.4 over 6,000 meters and was the team’s No. 3 runner.

2017: Competed for Cal State LA’s cross country team in the fall. Ran in seven races and was consistently in the top five. Finished 93rd in the CCAA Championships with a time of 24:33.5 over 6,000 meters and was 167th in the NCAA Division II West Regional with a time of 24:43.2 over 6,000 meters. Had a best 5,000 time of 20:09.5 after finishing 18th in 20:09.5. Earned a CCAA Fall Academic Award.

At Citrus College: Was a Scholar-Baller and earned all-state honors in cross country.

At Baldwin Park High School: Competed in soccer, track and field and cross country.

Personal: Daughter of Manuel Meza and Rebecca Avila. Majoring in Kinesiology. Enjoys swimming, lifting, hiking, singing and dancing. Lists traveling, meeting new people and practicing as her most exciting experiences in sports. Notes she is pretty friendly.
