Biography

2017: Had a second strong season in track and field for the Golden Eagles in his final year with the program. Had best marks of 4:23.81 in the indoor mile and 8:50.63 in the indoor 3,000 meters. Had an outstanding early-season time of 8:33.37 in the 3,000 in the outdoor season, but was then sidelined by injury. His time was 10th all-time at Cal State LA. For his career, had best times of 3:58.23 in the 1,500, 8:33.37 in the 3,000, 9:15.84 in the 3,000 steeplechase, 15:20.96 in the 5,000 and 31:52.94 in the 10,000. Also had top indoor times of 4:23.81 in the indoor mile and 8:50.63 in the indoor 3,000. Was on the roster for Cal State LA's cross country team in the fall, but did not compete in any races in his final year with the program.
 
2016:
Had an outstanding first season of track and field at Cal State LA. Finished fifth in the California Collegiate Athletic Association in the 3,000 steeplechase. Had a season’s best time of 9:15.84 that was an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark and is No. 5 on the Cal State LA career list. Also had best times of 3:58.23 in the 1,500, 8:46.10 in the 3,000, 15:20.96 in the 5,000 and 31:52.94 in the 10,000. Competed for Cal State LA’s cross country team in the fall. Was the team’s No. 1 runner by the end of the season. Finished 38th in the CCAA Championships with a time of 26:07.4 over 8,000 meters and 42nd in the NCAA Division II West Regionals with a time of 31:22.68 over 10,000 meters.

At Los Angeles Senior High School: Competed in cross country, track and field and football. Earned an Athlete of the Year scholarship. Won the city championship in cross country in 2014-15. Also earned league championships in the 800 and 1,600 meters. Was on his school’s Honor Roll.

Personal: Son of Tedros Dirar and Yordanos Bahta. Majoring in biology. Enjoys sitting at coffee shops, riding unicycles, watching French films, collecting monocles, catching Pokemon, taking the bus and winning. Lists winning the city cross country championship as his most exciting experience in sports. Finished fifth in the steeplechase at the 2016 USA Junior Championships.
