Biography

2018: Had another record-breaking season for the Golden Eagles in his final year with the program. Received the department's 2017-18 Frank J. Candida Award as Cal State L.A.'s top male athlete, winning the honor for a second time. Earned All-America honors for a second time in the 400 hurdles. Had the nation's No. 1 time of 49.23 and owned the fastest qualifying time, but fell over the second hurdle in the championship race and finished eighth. Won three California Collegiate Athletic Association championships in the 400 hurdles and as part of the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams. Had the team's best marks in the 400 hurdles, 400 (46.19) and 800 (1:53.10). Earned All-West Region honors in four events: the 400 hurdles, 400, 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay. Won Cal State LA's Frank J. Candida Award for the athletic department's best male athlete for a second time. Set a new program record of 48.65 in the 400 hurdles and finished third at the 2018 USA Track and Field Championships. For his career, earned three All-America and nine All-West Region awards. Also won a total of six CCAA championships. Had best marks of 48.65 in the 400 hurdles, 45.74 in the 400, 21.23 in the 200 and 1:52.04 in the 800.

2017: Had a powerful performance in indoor track and field before an injury at the indoor national championships ended his season. Had the nation’s second-fastest time in the 400 at 46.56 and was also an automatic qualifier in the 200 with a time of 21.23. Posted the fastest qualifying time after winning his heat in the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships, but was injured in the 400 final. Also missed the 200 final because of the injury. Had a time of 50.89 in the 400 hurdles in outdoor track before his injury at the indoor championships. Missed  the rest of the outdoor season and was a redshirt. Competed for Cal State LA’s cross country team in the fall and ran in five meets.

2016: Had a record-breaking first season with the Golden Eagles in track and field. Won the NCAA Division II championship in the 400 hurdles and tied a program record of 49.04. Also set a new school mark in the 400 with a time of 45.74. Set a new Jesse Owens Track record and a California Collegiate Athletic Association record of 50.19 while winning the conference 400 hurdles championship. Also won a conference title as part of the Cal State LA 4x100 relay team. Was named the West Region Track Athlete of the Year and the CCAA Track Athlete of the Year. Had the team’s best marks in the 400, 400 hurdles and 800 (1:52.04). Earned All-West Region honors in the 400 hurdles, 400 and 4x100. Received the department's 2015-16 Frank J. Candida Award as Cal State L.A.'s top male athlete.

At Chaffey College: Won Southern California and California State championships in the 400 hurdles. Had a best time of 50.71.

At Summit High School: Competed in track and field, basketball and football. Earned the school’s 3.2 Award.

Personal: Son of Fredrick Rosser and Vonda Muhammad. Majoring in liberal arts and Pan African Studies. Enjoys writing music and running. Competed in the 2016 Olympic Trials. Won his first-round heat and advanced to the semi-finals. Narrowly missed a spot in the finals. Won gold medals at the North American Central American Caribbean Under-23 Championships in the 400 hurdles and 4x400 relay shortly after the Olympic Trials. Lists competing in the Olympic Trials as his most exciting experience in sports. Says “life is a game of chess; make your best move.”
