Biography

2018: Had an outstanding second season for the Golden Eagles in his final year with the program. Received the department's 2016-17 Frank J. Candida Award as Cal State L.A.'s top male athlete. Earned second-team All-America honors after finishing 11th in the nation in the 110 hurdles. Also earned All-West Region honors and finished second in the California Collegiate Athletic Association in that event. Had best times of 13.94 in the 110 hurdles, 10.91 in the 100 and 22.09 in the 200. Earned first-team CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, becoming the first in program history to earn first-team accolades.Also won the CCAA Men's Track & Field Championship Scholar Award. Earned 2017-18 CCAA All-Academic and 2018 Spring All-Academic honors. For his career, had best times of 13.79 in the 110 hurdles, 10.91 in the 100 and 21.69 in the 200. Finished his career No. 1 in program history in the 110 high hurdles.

2017: Had a sensational first season with the Golden Eagles. Earned All-America honors in both indoor and outdoor track and broke a 39-year-old school record in the 110-meter hurdles in outdoor track. Finished third in the nation and set a new program record of 13.79. Also picked up the California Collegiate Athletic Association championship in that event and earned All-West Region honors. Was part of Cal State LA’s 4x100 relay team that took third in the conference. Also finished fifth in the CCAA in the 200. Had a best time of 10.93 in the 100 and had the team’s best 200 time at 21.69. Finished fifth in the 60 hurdles to earn All-America honors in indoor track. Had a best time of 7.91.

At York University: Was a two-time Canadian Senior National Champion in the 110 hurdles and a two-time national bronze medalist in the hurdles.

At Pickering High School: Was on the school’s Honor Roll and received honors in French.

Personal: Son of Carl Gerspacher and Carol Moseley. Majoring in Japanese. Enjoys music, running, shopping, learning and e-commerce. Lists making his first team in 2009 and representing Canada at the Pan Am Junior Championships in Trinidad and winning Canadian national championships in 2011 and 2013 as his most exciting experience in sports. Says RIP to his brother, Daundre Barnaby, “I miss you and I know you would be proud.”
