Cal State LA Athletics

2019: Was one of the team's top distance runners in his final year with the program. Had best times of 9:55.85 in the 3,000 meters, 17:32.53 in the 5,000 and 36:03.30 in the 10,000. Earned a 2018-19 California Collegiate Athletic Association All-Academic Award. Competed in two races for the Golden Eagles in his final year with the cross country program in the fall. Had a best time of 29:51.1 over 8,000 meters while finishing 83rd at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Oct. 12. Earned a 2019 California Collegiate Athletic Association Fall All-Academic Award.

2018: Was on the roster, but did not compete in any events for the Golden Eagles in track and field. Was Cal State LA’s No. 1 runner in cross country in the fall (2017). Finished 62^nd in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships with a time of 26:56.7 over 8,000 meters. Finished 155^th in the NCAA Division II West Regional with a time of 33:52.9 over 10,000 meters. Was injured and did not compete in track and field (2018).

At Pasadena City College: Was a two-time qualifier for the state championships in cross country and a Southern California qualifier in the 10,000 meters. Team took third place in conference. Received a Scholar Baller award for academic work.

At Salesian High School: Competed in cross country, basketball, track and field and volleyball. Earned first-team All-League honors twice and team won a CIF cross country championship and took third place in the state championships twice. Was a member of the National Honors Society. Was the Salesian Track Athlete of the Year.

Personal: Son of Michael and Bertha Guzman. Enjoys running, playing video games, listening to music and watching Netflix/Hulu. Lists running on the Oregon track and meeting National Basketball Association players as his most exciting experiences in sports.
