Golden Eagles Drop Series Opener To Yotes

SAN BERNARDINO -- Cal State LA's baseball team saw its four-game California Collegiate Athletic Association series against Cal State San Bernardino get off to a rocky start.

The Golden Eagles fell behind early and never could get their offense untracked in an 11-2 loss to the Yotes on Friday at Fiscalini Field. Cal State LA (15-11, 5-4 CCAA) had a three-game winning streak snapped, while Cal State San Bernardino (10-12, 4-5 CCAA) stretched its winning streak to four. The Yotes jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings and blanked the Golden Eagles until the ninth inning.

Ben Lee had four hits for the Golden Eagles, including a two-run home run in the ninth inning, but Ethan Gonzalez had the only other hit for Cal State LA.

Alejandro Huezo got the start for the Golden Eagles and bounced back nicely after surrendering four runs in the first inning and one in the second. He pitched four scoreless innings after that and finished his outing allowing 10 hits and five runs over six innings with one walk and four strikeouts.

Cal State San Bernardino got seven shutout innings from Devyn Hernandez, who allowed only three hits and one walk while striking out eight. Greg Luna had a home run and five runs batted in for the Yotes, while Dom Dominguez started the offense with a two-run home run in the first inning to open the scoring.

The Yotes broke the game open with six runs in the seventh inning to increase their lead to 11-0.

Lee provided the Golden Eagles with a pair of runs in the ninth when he followed a Omar Gonzalez hit by pitch with his second home run of the season.

Cal State LA will continue the series with a doubleheader on Saturday at noon against the Yotes at Fiscalini Field.
