Golden Eagles Drop Their First Game In Hawaii

WAIPAHU, HAWAII -- Cal State LA's baseball team dropped its first game of the 2026 season on Saturday against Hawaii Pacific.

The Golden Eagles, who opened the season on Friday with wins over Hawaii Pacific and Chaminade, fell short against Hawaii Pacific on Saturday, 13-5, at Hans L'Orange Park. Cal State LA (2-1) saw the Sharks (1-1) erupt for eight runs in the fourth inning to break a 2-2 tie,

The Golden Eagles surrendered 12 hits, 11 walks and four hit batters against the Sharks.

Alberto Prado had a pair of hits and three runs batted in for the Golden Eagles, while Isaiah Munoz was 1-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. Kadyn Victorian had two hits and scored a run.

Cal State LA took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Prado singled in Munoz, but the Sharks countered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead. Prado reached on an error and drove in Victorian with the tying run in the third, but the Sharks broke the game open with eight runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Cal State LA got a little closer in the fifth when Ben Lee scored on a passed ball and Carson Panarisi singled in Prado to make it 10-4. Hawaii Pacific, though, got three more runs in the sixth to take a 13-4 lead.

Prado doubled in Munoz in the seventh for the last run of the game.

Cal State LA will complete its Hawaiian trip with a doubleheader against Chaminade. Due to expected rain, the first game has been moved up to a 3 p.m. start.
