LA MIRADA -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team kicked off its 2025-26 season on Thursday on the opening day of the ITA West Regional Championships hosted by Biola University.

The doubles team of Maldini Simic and Sofia Pavlova had an outstanding first day and won both matches to advance to the quarterfinals. Simic and Pavlova beat Perla Conde Vendrell and Zoe Moley of Point Loma, 8-7 (7-5) to start the day and then beat Yousra Hidass and Livia Harper of Menlo, 8-0. They will face No. 4 seed Karola Suviste and Stina Larsson of Azusa Pacific on Friday.

Hideka Takamura and Georgiana Parr faced Suviste and Larsson in a first-round match and fell, 8-3.

Pavlova also had success in singles, winning a thrilling opening-round match over Menlo's Polya Nikolova, 7-5, 6-7 (5-7), (11-9). She then beat Valentina Gonzalez of Colorado Mesa, 7-5, 6-2, in the second round later on Thursday.

Simic fell to Point Loma's Perla Conde Vendrall, 7-6 (7-1), 6-2 in the opening round, Takamura fell to Biola's Dafne Andres Paton, 6-0, 6-1, Macy Hinds fell to Biola's Kim Yeo Kyung, 6-0, 6-1 and Parr fell to Stanislaus State's Maiah White, 7-5, 6-3.
