LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's men's soccer team remains in the United Soccer Coaches national rankings for a third straight week in a poll released on Tuesday.
The Golden Eagles went from No. 5 to No. 12 after a pair of ties against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponents last week in Colorado. Cal State LA (3-0-3) remained unbeaten after its first six matches with four shutouts. The Golden Eagles allowed the first goals of the season in a 2-2 tie at Colorado School of Mines to open the trip on Friday and then battled to a 1-1 draw with MSU Denver on Sunday.
Cal State LA has continued an impressive streak of appearances in the national rankings by appearing in the top-12Â all three regular-season polls this season. Cal State LA was ranked 11th in the nation in the preseason poll and then jumped all the way up to No. 2 after home wins over Fresno Pacific and Hawaii Hilo to open the season. Cal State LA moved to No. 5 after a tie with Seattle Pacific and a win over Western Washington to end a four-game homestand and then went to No. 12 after the ties in Colorado in the Golden Eagles' first road games of the season.
Cal State LA spent several weeks ranked as high as No. 2 last season and has now been ranked as high as first or second for six consecutive seasons. The Golden Eagles have reached the top-10 in seven straight seasons and 16 of the past 18 seasons. They have also made an appearance in a national poll in 20 straight seasons, a streak that started in 2005. Â
Defending national champion Lynn is No. 1 for the fourth straight poll, while Stanislaus State of the California Collegiate Athletic Association remains second after improving to 6-0. Cal State San Bernardino moved into the top-10 at No. 7, giving the CCAA three teams in the top 12.
Cal State LA will complete the non-conference portion of its schedule with a match at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday at 7 p.m. The Golden Eagles will face the Toros in a conference match in Los Angeles on Oct.; 19.
