ORLANDO, FLORIDA – Cal State LA's
Erick Alamo has been named the D2CIDA Men's Soccer National Player of the Week for his performance from October 6 to 12, the organization announced on Tuesday.
The senior midfielder powered the Golden Eagles to a 2-0 week that included California Collegiate Athletic Association wins over Cal State Monterey Bay and Chico State. He had two game-winning goals among his three goals for the week.
Alamo began the week by scoring the game-winner in the 39th minute of Cal State LA's 3-1 win over Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday. Assists from
Diego Arvizu and
Theo Lind set up Alamo from the top of the box to break a 1-1 tie.
The senior midfield followed with the first two goals in the Golden Eagles' 3-0 victory over Chico State on Sunday. Alamo knocked in the game-winner in the 37th minute off a brilliant one-touch strike with assists from
Marcos Lipertis and
Luc Soler and followed with a second goal in the final minute of the first half with a stunning side-winding shot to increase the lead to 2-0 with an assist from
Angel Sandres.
Alamo started the week with one goal on the season and he now leads Cal State LA with four goals.
National Players of the Week are selected by a volunteer committee of Division II Conference Information Directors from a pool of nominations submitted by conference offices.
Cal State LA will return to action this week with a road game at Cal State East Bay followed by a home game against Cal State Dominguez Hills at 7 p.m.
