LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA goalkeeper
Brayden McClelland was named the FloCollege/CCAA Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
McClelland led a spirited defensive effort that resulted in a pair of important home victories last week.
He helped Cal State LA to a 3-1 win over Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday, blanking the Otters after an early penalty kick goal had given the visitors a 1-0 lead. He made four saves in the game, including several high-pressure stops, to give the Golden Eagles the opportunity to score three unanswered goals and secure the win.
In Sunday's clean sheet versus Chico State, McClelland made four key saves, including a point-blank denial of Xavier Elder following a turnover early in a scoreless contest. Cal State LA then scored two goals in the first half and went on to a 3-0 win. The shutout was McClelland's sixth of the season.
McClelland continues to stay at the top of the leaderboard among CCAA goalkeepers, ranking first in goals-against average (0.64), save percentage (.848), and shutouts (6) through 11 starts this season. He also ranks third in saves per game, averaging 3.55 per match.
This marks his first career CCAA Defensive Player of the Week honor and the second weekly accolade of the season for Cal State LA, joining teammate Erick Alamo's offensive recognition.
The Golden Eagles will return to action on Friday at Cal State East Bay before returning home to face Cal State Dominguez HIlls on Sunday at 7 p.m. in University Stadium. Both matches are available to view on FloCollege.
