Golden Eagles Complete A Successful Home Weekend

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's men's soccer team capped off an outstanding week of California Collegiate Athletic Association play with a big victory over Chico State on Sunday.

The Golden Eagles got a pair of first-half goals from Erick Alamo and a late goal from Angel Sandres to post a 3-0 win over the Wildcats in University Stadium. Cal State LA (6-1-4, 3-1 CCAA) responded impressively after suffering its first loss of the season last Sunday by winning both games at home this weekend by a combined score of 6-1. The Golden Eagles were coming off a 3-1 win over Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday and, after allowing the opening goal in that contest, scored the final six goals of the weekend.

Alamo had two goals on Sunday and three for the weekend in a dazzling showing. He opened the scoring in the 37th minute with a brilliant one-touch shot to the left post and he produced an even more spectacular goal with time winding down in the first half with a side-winding shot inside the post. Alamo now leads the Golden Eagles with four goals on the season.

Sandres finished the scoring in the final minute when he was able to split a pair of defenders in the box and fire a beautiful shot inside the far post for the first goal of his Cal State LA career. He also had an assist on Alamo's second goal on Sunday, his second assist on the season. He made his first appearance of the season on Friday.

Before all the scoring started, Brayen McClelland made his best save of the season when he denied Xavier Elder from point-blank range following a Cal State LA turnover. McClelland came out to meet the shooter and made an spectacular stop.

Cal State LA had a 15-9 edge in shots and both teams had four corner kicks.

Alamo's first goal came with nifty assists from Luc Soler and Marcos Lipertis, who found Alamo in the box for the one-touch finish. Sandres had the assist on the second goal, sending a pass to Alamo in the box for his highlight-reel goal.

Sandres completed the scoring in the 90th minute with a play started by Lipertis. A Chico State defender deflected a pass, but Sandres fought his way in between two defenders and shot cleanly inside the far post.

Alamo had a match-high four shots, while Johnny Gonzalez also had a strong game for the Golden Eagles and had three shots. Angel Sevillano and Evan Yoell played the full 90 minutes to lead a Golden Eagle defense that posted its sixth shutout of the season.

Cal State LA will return to action on Friday with a road game at Cal State East Bay.
