LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's men's soccer team burst its way back into the United Soccer Coaches national rankings in a poll released on Tuesday.
After falling out of the rankings for the first time this season last week, the Golden Eagles surged back to No. 15 in the poll after home wins last week over Cal State Monterey Bay and Chico State.
The Golden Eagles (6-1-4, 3-1 CCAA) were No. 21 in the country two weeks ago after a 0-0 tie at Cal State Dominguez Hills in Carson, but tumbled out of the Top-25 after splitting road games at UC Merced and Stanislaus State to open California Collegiate Athletic Association play. The Golden Eagles posted a come-from-behind 2-1 win at UC Merced before allowing the final two goals of the game in a 2-1 loss at Stanislaus State.
The Golden Eagles bounced back at home last week, though, erasing a 1-0 deficit in a 3-1 win over Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday and recording a 3-0 win over Chico State on Sunday.
Cal State LA has continued an impressive streak of appearances in the national rankings by appearing in the top-25Â in five of the six regular-season polls this season. Cal State LA was ranked 11th in the nation in the preseason poll and then jumped all the way up to No. 2 after home wins over Fresno Pacific and Hawaii Hilo to open the season. Cal State LA moved to No. 5 after a tie with Seattle Pacific and a win over Western Washington to end a four-game homestand, went to No. 12 after a pair of ties in Colorado and then to No. 21 after the tie with the Toros.
Cal State LA spent several weeks ranked as high as No. 2 last season and has now been ranked first or second for six consecutive seasons. The Golden Eagles have reached the top-10 in seven straight seasons and 16 of the past 18 seasons. They have also made an appearance in a national poll in 20 straight seasons, a streak that started in 2005. Â
Defending national champion Lynn is No. 1 for the sixth straight poll, while Stanislaus State of the CCAA moved back to No. 2. Cal Poly Pomona is No. 25, giving the CCAA three teams in the top-25.
Cal State LA continues conference play with a road game at Cal State East Bay on Friday and a home game on Sunday against Cal State Dominguez Hills at 7 p.m.
