Golden Eagles Respond With An Impressive Home Win

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's men's soccer team responded nicely to its first loss of the season with a come-from-behind California Collegiate Athletic Association win at home on Friday.

The Golden Eagles gave up the first goal of the game on Friday, but responded with goals from Marcos Lipertis, Erick Alamo and Michael Sunde to beat Cal State Monterey Bay, 3-1, in University Stadium. Cal State LA (5-1-4, 2-1 CCAA) scored two goals in a two-minute span late in the first half to take the lead and scored the lone goal in the second half to extend the lead.

Cal State Monterey Bay (3-3-2, 0-1-2 CCAA) took the lead on a penalty kick by Ramiro Corrales Jr. in the 25th minute, but Cal State LA made sure the lead didn't last long.

Lipertis scored his first career goal for the Golden Eagles to tie the game in the 37th minute. Diego Arvizu started the scoring sequence with a pass to Angel Sandres, who then hit an onrushing Lipertis perfectly in stride and Lipertis fired a bullet to the far post for the goal.

Arvizu had a hand in the go-ahead goal as well in the 39th minute. He received a pass from Theo Lind and set up Alamo for a quality chance from inside the box to the far post. The goal was Alamo's second of the season.

Sunde made it 3-1 in the 63rd minute with a big assist from Jose Lopez, who stole a pass on Cal State LA's defensive side of the field and led a 2-on-1 break before slipping a pass to Sunde. Sunde eluded the goalkeeper and shot swiftly into an empty net for the first goal of his Cal State LA career.

Brayden McClelland had a strong game in goal for the Golden Eagles and made four saves.

Cal State LA had a 15-10 edge in shots and both teams had four corner kicks.

Cal State LA will return to action with a home game against Chico State on Sunday at 2 p.m.
