SEASIDE -- Cal State LA's baseball team saw its four-game series at Cal State Monterey Bay get off to a rough start.
The Golden Eagles fell behind 8-0 after four innings and the Otters went on to a 12-1 win in a California Collegiate Athletic Association game Friday night at the Otter Sports Complex. Cal State LA (12-19, 7-14 CCAA) managed six hits, including a double from
Nick Penzetta. He scored the Golden Eagles' only run on a balk in the fifth inning.
Yuji Sakane battled into the sixth inning for the Golden Eagles and was charged with nine earned runs. He walked one and struck out two.
Jacob Rangel finished up for Cal State LA and gave up just three hits and two runs over 2 2/3 innings.
Cal State Monterey Bay (24-10, 18-6 CCAA) got an outstanding start from Ethan McRae, who limited the Golden Eagles to five hits and one run over seven innings. Christian McInerney tossed two scoreless innings to finish up.
The Golden Eagles got a double from Penzetta and singles from
Johnny Pacheco,
Fabian Moran,
Gerardo Castaneda, Penzetta and
Anthony Angel, Jr.Â
The Otters scored an unearned run in the first inning and tacked on four more in the second to take an early 5-0 lead.
Cal State LA's lone run came in the fifth when Penzetta doubled, took third on a single by Angel and scored on a two-out balk.
The series will continue with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m.
