IRVINE -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team, after being announced as a PacWest Championship Tournament qualifier earlier in the day, picked up its most impressive win of the season on Monday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles, after dropping the doubles point, stormed back to win all six contests and post a 6-1 victory over Concordia. Cal State LA (6-7) won its second straight match and posted a big win over Concordia (8-12), which was also announced on Monday as one of the 12 participants for the PacWest Championships in Surprise, Ariz. later this month.
The doubles point was hotly contested with the host Eagles winning two of the three contests to claim the point.
Courtlyn Lam and
Savaughna Mayo won at No. 3 doubles over Alicia Da Re and Jennifer Jolin for the Golden Eagles, but Cal State LA dropped the other two doubles in tight decisions.
Berta Acero and
Sarah Olmos fell at No. 1 doubles to Tiffany Carrillo and Maya Arksey, 7-5, and
Noa Davico and
Sakura Kurokawa fell at No. 2 doubles to Alyssa Zayat and Kimia Rahmani.
Cal State LA, though, responded after the doubles with an inspired run through the six singles contests.
Olmos won at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-2, over Carrillo, Davico won at No. 2 singles, 7-6, 7-6, over Arksey, Acero won at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5, over Zayat, Kurokawa won at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 7-6, over Rahmani,
Chelsey Ruiz won at No. 5 singles, 7-5, 6-4 over Da Re and Lam beat Jolin, 6-1, 6-2.
Cal State LA will return to action with a road match at Biola at Wednesday before returning home for its final regular-season match on Friday against Point Loma on Senior Day.
