LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team put up a good battle in a tight match against Division I UC Irvine on Saturday.
The Golden Eagles won the doubles point and took two singles matches in a narrow 4-3 loss to the Anteaters at the Cal State LA Tennis Complex. Cal State LA (1-5) lost its fifth straight match, but its effort against the Anteaters (4-7) was one of its best of the season.
Sarah Olmos had a terrific day for the Golden Eagles, winning at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 7-5, over Jessica Tsukiji.
Berta Acero earned the other singles win for the Golden Eagles with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Mia Totah.
Courtlyn Lam was involved in the match of the day and fell in three sets at No. 6 singles, 7-6, 4-6, 6-4, to UC Irvine's Shreya Pavani.
Cal State LA picked up the doubles point thanks to wins from the No. 1 doubles team of Acero and Olmos, who beat Alyssia Fossorier and Tsukiji, 6-4 and the No. 3 doubles team of Lam and
Savaughna Mayo, who beat Totah and Pavani, 6-3.
Cal State LA will return to action on Wednesday with a home match against Marymount at 2 p.m.
