SAN DIEGO -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team came up short Friday in a battle against fellow PacWest Conference foe Point Loma.
The Golden Eagles dropped the doubles point and then all six singles matches in a 7-0 loss to the Sea Lions. Cal State LA (1-4), continuing to battle with a shortened lineup, lost its fourth straight contest, while Point Loma improved to 6-3.
Sarah Olmos and
Chelsey Ruiz both battled into the third set in their matches before falling to their Point Loma opponents. Olmos won the first set before falling to Point Loma's Arianna Audelo at No. 1 singles, 1-6, 6-1, 6-1, while Ruiz dropped the first set before fighting back in a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 loss to Samantha Neilson at No. 4 singles.
Noa Davico fell to Angelique Friedrich at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-4,
Berta Acero fell to Thelma Sepulveda at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-4,
Taylor Barnes fell to Amanda Letzring, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 5 singles and
Savaughna Mayo fell to Faith Pearson at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-2.
Cal State LA's team of Olmos and
Sakura Kurokawa fell at No. 2 doubles, 6-2, to Friedrich and Neilson and Mayo and
Courtlyn Lam fell at No. 3 doubles, 6-2, to Pearson and Letzring. Davico and Acero trailed at No. 1 doubles to Audelo and Rachel Whittington, but the match was unfinished.
Cal State LA will return to action next Saturday, March 5, with a home match against UC Irvine.Â
