LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's
Darnelle Harris has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Men's Track Athlete of the Week for the week of Feb. 14-20, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Harris posted three first-place finishes at the Cerritos Invitational to claim the first CCAA Track Athlete of the Week honors of the 2022 season.
Harris had an outstanding Cal State LA debut with the three victories. He won the 100 with a time of 10.68, the 200 with a time of 21.53 and was part of a winning 4x400 relay team with
Shingirai Hlanguyo,
Jesus Nichol II and
Leon Tafirenyika with a time of 3:20.50.
Harris competing in his first season with the Golden Eagles after transferring in from Long Beach City College.
Harris continues an impressive streak for Cal State LA's men's track and field team. The Golden Eagles have now claimed at least one weekly honor in six consecutive seasons. Most recently, Nicholas Harper earned the honor in 2019 for the week of Feb. 24 - March 1.
The Golden Eagles will host the Cal State LA Invitational this weekend on Saturday with throwing events at Mt. SAC on Friday.
