Box Score FRESNO -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team returned to action on Thursday on the opening day of the ITA Fall West Regional hosted by Fresno Pacific.
Sarah Olmos advanced to the round of 16 in singles after posting a pair of wins to highlight the day's action. 
Sakura Kurokawa also won a singles match before falling to a ranked player in the second round.
The doubles team of Olmos and Kurokawa won its first match as a doubles pair. Olmos and Kurokawa defeated Sylvana Talamantes and Alyssa Tay of Stanislaus State, 8-0, and then fell to Sofia Ragona and Yun Nicole Shiau of Academy of Art, 8-4. 
Courtlyn Lam and 
Savaughna Mayo fell to Maria Vittoria Casucci and Alice Marquez of Academy of Art, 8-6.
Olmos began her Cal State LA singles career impressively with a 6-4, 4-6 (10-4) win over Biola's Brooke Fager and then upended No. 13 Samantha Neilson of Point Loma, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4). She'll face the tournament's No. 1 seed on Friday.
Kurokawa defeated Isabel Heres of MSU Denver in a first-round match, 6-4, 4-6 (10-4) before falling to No. 9 Heather Richards of Concordia, 6-2, 6-1.
Lam fell to No. 10 Yun Nicole Shiau of Academy of Art, 6-1, 6-0 in a first-round match, while Mayo fell to Amanda Letzring of Point Loma, 4-6, 6-2, (10-7).
The tournament will continue on Friday.
