HUNTINGTON BEACH -- Cal State LA's beach volleyball team split a pair of matches Friday at Golden West College.

The Golden Eagles fell in a close battle with Ventura College, 3-2, and beat Golden West College, 5-0. The Golden Eagles fell in both of the three-set decisions in the match against Ventura.

Cal State LA's No. 1 pairs team of Karla Santos and Alejandra Negron won both of their matches, while the No. 4 pairs team of Ashley Apel and Jeshmarie Suarez also went 2-0 on the day for the Golden Eagles (2-1).

The No. 2 pairs of Jessica Kaeka and Julia Azevedo and the No. 3 pairs of Victoria Duarte and Janessa Mata split matches on Friday.

Cal State LA will return to action on Saturday with matches against Cal State Northridge and the Master's University in Northridge.
