BELMONT -- Cal State LA's men's soccer team made sure there would be no second-half comeback needed in this one.
The No. 10 Golden Eagles, who erased a 1-0 deficit in a 2-1 win over Fresno Pacific on Saturday, scored a pair of goals in the first 16 minutes on Monday and went on to a 3-0 victory over previously-undefeated Notre Dame de Namur in Belmont. Cal State LA (4-0) got goals from
David Elizaga,
Antonio Rosas and
Jose Tovar to upend the Argonauts (2-1).
Elizaga's goal came in the ninth minute and Rosas made it 2-0 in the 16th minute. Tovar added the final goal in the 75th minute and Cal State LA's defense turned in its third shutout of the season.
Cal State LA had a 13-8 advantage in shots, including a 7-3 edge in the first half. The Golden Eagles also had a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
Alexander Brems recorded a pair of saves for the shutout.
Elizaga put the Golden Eagles ahead with his second goal of the season.
Robin Lindahl and
Cyrille Njomo assisted on the score.
Rosas made it 2-0 in the 16th minute with an assist from
Carlos Zarate. The all-region defender picked up his third career goal and his first since 2017.
Tovar finished the scoring in the 75th minute with Zarate picking up his second assist of the game. The goal was the first of Tovar's Cal State LA career.
Cal State LA will return to action on Saturday with a home game against Biola at 7 p.m.
