Golden Eagles Enjoy A Grand Time In Sunday Opener

SAN BERNARDINO -- Cal State LA's baseball team put together a clutch ninth-inning rally to pick up its first California Collegiate Athletic Association victory of the season Sunday in San Bernardino.

The Golden Eagles got a grand slam home run from Jordan Myrow in the top of the ninth inning to erase a 7-6 deficit and lift them to a 10-7 win at Fiscalini Field. The second game of the doubleheader, scheduled for seven innings, was halted in the bottom of the third because of rain with the Coyotes holding a 5-1 lead.

Myrow's blast was his second go-ahead ninth-inning home run already for Cal State LA (2-5, 1-2 CCAA). Last Sunday, he hit a tiebreaking two-run home run in an 11-9 win over No. 12 Colorado Mesa.

The Golden Eagles trailed 7-6 entering the ninth inning, but Spencer Sundahl picked up a one-out single, Michael Tillman followed with a two-run double and Nate Alam drew a walk to set things up for Myrow. The Cal State LA newcomer didn't disappoint and promptly smacked his second home run of the season.

Micah Hee pitched a scoreless ninth inning with a pair of strikeouts to preserve the win for Miguel Garcia, who allowed only a pair of unearned runs over three innings of relief. Alec Daily got the start and gave up six hits and three earned runs over the first five innings.

Tillman was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI, while Anthony Moreno was 1-for-3 with three runs scored and Spencer Sundahl was 1-for-3 with two runs scored.

Cal State LA scored three runs in the top of the first thanks to a run-scoring single by Tillman, a sacrifice fly by Alam and a bases-loaded walk to Moreno.

Moreno hit a two-run double in the fifth inning to give the Golden Eagles a 5-2 lead, but the Coyotes scored four times in the bottom of the sixth to take a 6-5 lead. Tillman hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh to tie it, but the Coyotes got an unearned run in the bottom of the eighth to take a one-run lead into the ninth.

Myrow then changed that with one swing of the bat.

Cal State LA will return to action with a four-game conference series at Cal State Monterey Bay beginning on Friday.
