Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 3 Golden Eagles Return To Action With 6-0 Win

CARSON -- Cal State LA's men's soccer team didn't let a 10-day layoff slow it down and the Golden Eagles returned to action with a big California Collegiate Athletic Association victory.

The Golden Eagles improved to 8-0 with a 6-0 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills Wednesday night at Toro Stadium. No. 3 Cal State LA (8-0, 3-0 CCAA) got two goals in the first 15 minutes of the game and then added four more goals in the first 23 minutes of the second half to produce their largest goal total of the season. Carl Solli scored three of the four second-half goals for the hat trick. The goals were the first three of the season for Solli.

Daniel Simonis had three assists on the four second-half goals. Robin Lindahl and Tim Klefisch had the first-half goals, while David Elizaga scored his fifth goal of the season in the 53rd minute.

Cal State LA had an 18-9 edge in shots. Goalkeepers Alexander Brems and Ian Hernandez combined for four saves to record the shutout.

The Golden Eagles also had an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Cal State LA opened the scoring in the seventh minute on a goal by Lindahl. Cyrille Njomo started the play with a pass to Elizaga, who collected the ball in full stride and sent a beautiful cross into the box and Lindahl smartly knocked it in for his fourth goal of the season. Less than eight minutes later, Simonis was fouled leading to a penalty kick that was converted by Klefisch for his fifth goal of the season.

Solli made it 3-0 in the second minute of the second half, scoring in front off a nice pass from Simonis.

Simonis set up the next goal as well as he took a shot that was saved brilliantly by Cal State Dominguez Hills goalkeeper Julian Tafolla-Cisneros. Elizaga was there, though, to knock in the rebound to make it 4-0 in the 53rd minute.

Solli added his second goal just three minutes later. Simonis got the ball to Leonardo Nogueira, who set Solli up right in front of the goal with a spectacular pass to make it 5-0.

Solli finished his hat trick with a goal in the 69th minute. He was on the receiving end of a through ball from Carlos Zarate and didn't miss on the breakaway that made it 6-0.

Cal State LA will return to action on Sunday with a home game against Sonoma State beginning at 2 p.m.
