Golden Eagles Drop Series Finale To Gators

SAN FRANCISCO -- Cal State LA's baseball team didn't get the performance it wanted Monday in its California Collegiate Athletic Association series at San Francisco State.

The Golden Eagles committed five errors and managed only one run after the second inning of a 7-4 loss to the Gators at Maloney Field. Cal State LA (19-14, 16-12 CCAA) lost three times in the four-game series to San Francisco State (14-20, 13-15 CCAA).

Adam Gordon was 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Anthony Ayala also drove in one run.

Saxon Andross started and gave up eight hits and three earned runs over 4 1/3 innings. Greg Humbert allowed an unearned run over 1 1/3 innings, George Alamillo gave up one run over two innings and Robbie Stowell gave up one run while getting the final out in the eighth inning.

The Golden Eagles took a 3-1 lead in the second inning. Jorge Garcia was hit by a pitch and moved to third on a double by Nic Bereaud. Gordon singled in both baserunners to give the Golden Eagles the lead. Armett Johnson reached on an error to allow Anthony Moreno to score with the third run of the inning.

San Francisco State scored single runs in the first three innings and then got another run in the fifth to take a 4-3 lead.

The Golden Eagles tied it in the sixth on a run-scoring single by Anthony Ayala, but the Gators regained the lead with an unearned run in the bottom of the inning and then added a pair of runs in the eighth.

Cal State LA will return to action on Friday with the opener of a four-game series against Sonoma State at Reeder Field.
